Nails & Rings

In urban communities, nails and rings have been a thing forever. 90’s nail art styles were so iconic and still are today. Being a Fly Girl means being original, bold, and different. In the “ghetto” so many trends have been created, and to many times the beautiful black women who created them have been mocked and talked negatively about their style. Then in the next fashion week you see those same styles on a runway. It’s “ghetto” until it’s mainstream.

High Fashion was born in the Hood. #CuLAture

When I was a little girl, beauty rituals were a thing for my mom. I remember her waking up early Saturday morning going to get her nails, feet, and hair done like clock work. I fell in love with this experience so I had to join her, especially at that time I was young so she paid for it.

I remember her telling me:

“If you want to wear rings, you have to keep your nails done”.

I wonder if she knew that day she was planting a seed in my mind. Fast forward in 2023, I LOVE GETTING MY NAILS DONE! I love nail art, I love a fresh set, and I even learned how to do my own nails.

… and, my mom was right nothing sets off a fresh set of nails like some beautiful rings. I love rings so much, well accessories in general, but rings make me feel so regal.

This is why 70Ninety was created. I wanted to shine the light on two historical era’s (the 70’s & the 90’s), using fashion to tell a story & uplift/educate my community. With hopes that we will learn to Fall in Love with Ourselves so we can love each other more.

that’s all for now…
